Prevent, Protect, Respond: Workplace Solutions to Combat COVID-19

As businesses prepare to reintroduce staff back into their offices and facilities, our customers in the greater Boston, Massachusetts area have been asking us how their current technologies can help them keep their workforces safe, efficient, and in good health.

Motorola Solutions is constantly renovating its communication and security technologies to address current challenges and the newest demands. The unprecedented nature of COVID-19 calls for innovative and effective solutions—and, as always, Motorola is prepared to deliver.

Most notably, AI-powered video analytics are being reworked within existing surveillance systems to monitor best hygiene practices, including social distancing, mask detection, contact tracing, and fever detection. Companies worldwide are implementing these new technologies in their own facilities to help prevent, protect and respond for increased workplace safety.

Social Distancing & Mask Detection: Preventing the Spread of COVID-19

We’ve heard it for months: Social distancing is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As your workspace reopens, enforcing these preventative measures will be crucial to your safety and success as an operation.

Motorola Solutions’s social distancing technology combines video with AI-powered analytics to collect visual footage and statistical patterns on where social distancing protocols have been breached. This technology can calculate the exact distance between individuals and identify when social distancing violations occur. You can also generate social distancing reports, which identify hotspots for violations that may require additional attention or temporary changes.

Wearing face masks is another preventative measure highly encouraged by the CDC. Using the same AI-powered video analytics, Motorola Solutions’s face mask detection technology can identify when individuals are not wearing a proper face mask. Once an individual without a mask has been identified, notifications can be sent straight to your Avigilon Control Center, including information such as the location of the person in question. You can even use this data to run reports and assess compliance levels within your facility.

Both social distancing and mask detection solutions will be available for Avigilon video security systems in June 2020.

Body-Worn Cameras: Protecting Your Personnel from COVID-19

Essential workers around the world are risking COVID-19 infection on a daily basis to provide emergency services, collect waste, operate public transport, and stock supermarket shelves. In the midst of a health crisis, front-line workers like these are most at risk.

Motorola Solutions features existing surveillance technologies that can help protect staff and support employers during COVID-19. Essential workers who face the risk of aggression or violence can be equipped with unobtrusive body-worn cameras, such as the VT100, that help deter aggression while also capturing evidential footage. The cameras also allow employees to verbally notify aggressors that their actions are being recorded, which will often de-escalate the situation. These body-worn cameras are available now.

Thermal camera technology is also in high demand to help detect fever symptoms in the workplace with minimal interaction. Avigilon is currently testing the use of security-grade thermal cameras to detect a person’s elevated skin temperature, which may suggest that additional screening is required. This technology will be available soon.

Contact Tracing: Responding to COVID-19 Threats

Time is of the essence when it comes to tracing possible exposures from an infected person. Identifying people who were potentially exposed to an infected person or contaminated areas can greatly mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

The Identity Correlation Report utilizes Avigilon functionalities to identify possible exposures and allow for faster intervention. This security solution compiles a list of doors that were touched by an infected employee, further identifying others who may have come into contact with these doors within the same timeframe. Avigilon Appearance Search™, along with Identity Search, adds an extra measure of safety by generating timelines and video clips of these events. Identity Correlation is available now.
